COMMERCIAL SNAIL SPECIES IN AFRICA

If your purpose of venturing into Snail farming is for business,then you have to choose from these three to attract  better market . All the species we'll discuss here are species of air-breathing tropical land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Achatinidae. 1. Achatina Achatina – Achatina achatina, commonly known as the giant Ghana snail or  the giant tiger land snail. Achatina achatina in mating mode Features of Achatina achatina • They are hemraphrodites, meaning that each snail possess both the female and male reproductive organs but two snails are still needed for breeding. • They are very prolific breeders. • Achatina achatina’s shell can attain a length of 200 mm and a maximum diameter of 100 mm. They may possess between 7-8 whorls and the shell is often broadly ovate. • The body of the animal is silver-brown in color although albino morphs may exist. 2. Archachatina marginata  It is commonly known as the giant West African snail.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BROILERS AND LAYERS-POULTRY

Layer bird Broiler bird i. Broilers are reared mainly for meat. Layers are reared solely for their eggs ii. Broilers are reared for a span of 42–56days and  are then marketed as live animals or slaughtered for meat. Layers attain sexual maturity 18–22 weeks and lay eggs up to 72 weeks of age and then they are either moulted or sold as spent hens. iii. Broilers are reared commercially in deep litter system of housing, whereas it is preferred to rear layers in caged housing systems. iv. Ideally, broilers are reared in batches in an all-in/all-out system in a single rearing shed. Whereas layers are reared as per different growth stages in different sheds which are;  Chicks(0-8weeks), growers (9–22 weeks) and layers (23–72 weeks ). READ ALSO... CHICK STARTER MASH/CRUMBLED This is a high protein rich variety of chicken feed designed to meet the dietary requirements of baby chicks. Basically, baby chicks can live comfortably on a diet of starter feed and water for the first           6-7weeks of their life before progressing onto the next variety of feed. The crude protein content is usually between 20-24% and it helps young chicks grow into playful pullets, however it’s imperative that you phase out the starter feed once they are 6 or 7weeks old, otherwise the excess protein can cause liver damage. 2. NECROTIC ENTERITIS: POULTRY DISEASE

Necrotic enteritis (NE) is an acute Clostridium infection characterized by severe necroses of intestinal mucosa. The disease begins suddenly, with a sharp increase in death rate. A strong dehydration is observed. The skin is sticked on or adhered to body musculature and is hardly removed Necrotic enteritis  infection is susceptible to pennicilin. It usually affect birds between 2wks to 6wks of age.  Symptoms Symptoms are similar to gumboro and pullorium. On PM, there's bloody lesion on the intestines linings. It is not an hatchery problem. It is transmitted via shavings, equipment and by workers. It can be endermic on a farm, if proper fumigation is not carried out after an outbreak.
